With Savision Live Maps for Operations Manager 2007 you are able to create health state aware nested views in System Center Operations Manager 2007. The default state rollup algorithm for a Live Maps view is set to ‘Worst Of’, meaning that the worst state of any object in the nested view is represented as the consolidated state on the top level view.

In this article I will explain how you can change the default state rollup behavior of a Live Maps view from ‘Worst Of’ to ‘Best Of’.

I have created two example views that I will use for this scenario: a detailed view called Amsterdam and a top level view called The Netherlands. The Amsterdam view contains two servers: one in a critical state and one in a healthy state. By default the health state shown on the top level view will be critical.

Example Views

To change the rollup algorithm we first need to look up the Amsterdam view in the Live Maps folder in the Microsoft Operations console. After selecting the Amsterdam view launch the Health Explorer from the Actions Pane.

We will now create an override for the Live Maps Entity Health Rollup – Amsterdam monitor. The override is created for the Amsterdam object. Check the Rollup Algorithm override and change the override value to Best health state and save the changes.

Create the same override for the Live Maps Availability Health Rollup – Amsterdam monitor.

It will take a few minutes before the new state is calculated. Use the refresh button to check if the heath state is updated.
